A SAFEHOMES letter has been sent home to all parents of Middle School Children.
Please take the time to read the pledge, review it with your family, sign it, and send it back to the Middle School Office. This is just one small way to protect our children, and support each other as parents.

I think the new year really begins in September. As a child, I would buy new clothes, new shoes and dreamed of meeting new friends in my classroom. I would even practice my signature, trying to make it unique to express the new me.

Here I am, with three children of my own, and I still have that new year feeling. Fall is a chance to be a little more organized, be a little more patient, exercise a little more and eat a little better. A chance to finally be the new me I always wanted to be.

Enjoy the last couple weeks of summer, and enjoy dreaming of all the wonderful new things to come this year. See you in September!

On Wednesday, May 19, Steve & Deb Boczenowski will host The Jeff Boczenowski Story: Overcoming Obstacles that Keep Families from Dealing with Depression. The goal of this event is to provide families with practical advice for addressing the needs of a family member who
suffers from depression and/or anxiety.
The forum is built from stories of Jeff’s life, and the obstacles his family faced. Two mental
health professionals, Dr. Madhavi Kamireddi and Dan Simone, will share ways families can understand and recognize depression and anxiety and effective ways to navigate the coping mechanisms, including prescription medications.
At 6:30, two of Jeff’s close friends will provide music until the forum begins.
This is a free event at the Union Congregational Church in Groton MA.

Host a Neighborhood Progressive Party this Spring

Knowing your neighbors is important for parents and children! Host a progressive dinner party with your friends or neighbors, where you get to "progress" from house to house for different parts of the meal!

Based on the Search Institute's "40 Developmental Assets", neighbors play an important role in helping children make wise decisions, choose positive paths, and grow up to become competent, caring, responsible adults.

Have you required that your teen friend you?
You work so hard to be a big part of your teen's off-line world, why not work at being part of their on-line world? Do not let your teen's online world be a place where parents do not belong.

Let me know if you would like to learn how to open a FACEBOOK account, learn about privacy settings and how to post messages and pictures. If there is enough interest, I will hold a Parent-to-Parent Seminar.

What is Safehomes?

Safe Homes is an effort to establish a voluntary network of parents whom are concerned about alcohol and drug use at pre-teen and teen parties and gatherings.

We are asking parents to make a pledge to support our teenagers by providing alcohol- and drug-free, supervised gatherings in our homes and community. . We hope to encourage communication between families, as we support one another in making a positive environment for our children.

Protecting Youth from High-Risk Behaviors

Assets have tremendous power to protect youth from many different harmful or unhealthy choices. To illustrate this power, these charts show that youth with the most assets are least likely to engage in four different patterns of high-risk behavior, based on surveys of almost 150,000 6th- to 12th-grade youth in 202 communities across the United States in calendar year 2003.
